Plastic Injection Molding: Custom Molded Parts Manufacturing Guide

What is Plastic Injection Molding?

Injection molding melts plastic pellets and injects them under pressure into a precision mould, where the material cools and solidifies into the finished shape. It produces high volumes of consistent, complex plastic parts with low unit cost once the tool exists.

Tooling and part design

We design and build moulds with correct draft, wall thickness, gating and rib design to avoid sink marks, warpage and fill problems, using DFM review before cutting steel.

Materials and grades

We mold ABS, nylon, polycarbonate, PP, PE, POM, PEEK and many engineering resins, with filled, flame-retardant and certified grades for specific industries.

Overmolding and insert molding

Soft TPE/TPR can be overmolded onto hard plastic or metal for grips and seals, while insert molding encapsulates metal contacts and components for integrated assemblies.

Frequently asked questions

When should I use injection molding vs CNC?

Use CNC for prototypes and low volumes, and injection molding for higher volumes where the tooling cost is amortised across many identical parts.

What is overmolding?

Overmolding moulds a second material — often a soft TPE — onto a harder substrate to create grips, seals and integrated soft-touch parts in one assembly.

How long does tooling take?

Lead time depends on part complexity and number of cavities; we provide a schedule during DFM and can support rapid/bridge tooling.

Can you help with part and mould design?

Yes — our engineers review draft, wall thickness, gates and ribs and propose changes to improve quality and reduce cost.
